The Foundation was founded by Annette Dieudonné, Cécile Armagnac, Doda Conrad, François Dujarric de la Rivière to keep alive the memory of the two musician sisters whose personalities bore the stamp of genius. The Fondation will reflect Nadia Boulanger's expressed wish to perpetuate the memory of her younger sister Lili, promoting her works by republications, performances and recordings. The deep convictions of Nadia Boulanger, in matters such as music, aesthetics and pedagogy, remain ever pertinent in the History of Music.
Under the sponsorship of the Fondation de France, the Nadia and Lili Boulanger international Foundation is recognized of public interest ("utilité publique"). Donations and legacies can be made in its favor and credited to its account. Cheques should be made out to "Fondation Nadia et Lili Boulanger - account N° 86", and mailed to François Dujarric de la Rivière, treasurer, 14 rue d’Aumale 75009 Paris - France.
The Board of Directors includes, for the most part, former students of Nadia Boulanger residing in Paris. Its president is Dominique Merlet, distinguished pianist and renowned pedagogue. The other members are : François Dujarric de la Rivière (Vice President and Treasuror), Alexandra Laederich (General Secretary), Noël Lee (Pianist and Composer), Bruno Gillet (Composer), Narcis Bonet (Composer) and Rémy Stricker (Musicologist).
